Former Chicago Police Superintendent LeRoy Martin has passed away.
Martin joined the Chicago Police Department in 1955 and served for 36 years.
He was superintendent from 1987 to 1992.
The department released a statement expressing its condolences to the Martin family and friends:
"The Chicago Police Department extends its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of former Chicago Police Superintendent LeRoy Martin, who passed away today. Former Superintendent Martin joined the Chicago Police Department in 1955 and served the City of Chicago for 36 years, with his latest role as Superintendent of Police from 1987 until 1992. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Martin family at this time."
