Jodi Arias Trial Update: Jury reportedly emotional after they announce they cannot reach sentencing decision

(CBS/AP) -- The judge in the Jodi Arias murder trial declared a mistrial in the penalty phase late Thursday afternoon after the jury reported it was deadlocked on whether to sentence her to life in prison or death for killing her lover Travis Alexander in 2008.

The jury began deliberating Tuesday afternoon. Late Wednesday morning, they announced they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict, and the judge instructed them to keep trying.

Dear Steve and Shirley, I am a 30-year-old single parent and my mother is currently residing with me. The problem is the time frame ... it has been nine years. At first I told myself that I needed to help her because she was with my step-father who was abusive. I have an older brother that doesn't want anything to do with her and he has his reasons not to. My mother is almost 60 and she finally got away from my step-father and I was there to pick up the pieces. Since then, I have been trying to help her, but now I just feel used. She doesn't help me with bills in the house and she uses my vehicle whenever she feels like it and comes back days later. She goes out at least three times a week, maybe more. I have furnished an apartment for her that she doesn't even stay in and her excuse is, "I don't have transportation." It has gotten to the point where she has washed one of her homeless boyfriend's clothing at my house. That was the last straw! I love my mother dearly and all I want is to see her do well, like she was before she got involved with my stepfather. I know that we should honor our parents, but what should I do? Months of argument and anguish over Mayor Rahm Emanuel's push for sweeping school closings came to a climax Wednesday as his hand-picked Board of Education voted to shut 49 elementary schools and transfer thousands of children to new classroom settings.

Chicago Public Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett withdrew her recommendation to close four other schools at the last minute as it became clear some board members would fight to save them.

Brutal, fatal cleaver assault in London called a terrorist attack

London (CNN) -- They first hit the man, thought to be a British soldier, with a car in broad daylight. Then the two attackers hacked him to death and dumped his body in the middle of a southeastern London road.

As the victim -- dressed in what appeared to be a T-shirt for Help for Heroes, a charity that helps military veterans -- lay prone, one of the two attackers found a camera.

Dear Steve and the crew, I am a 21-year-old college student with a five-year-old daughter. I was dating my daughter's father for five years before I had her. Recently, I found out that he lied to me the whole time. He is actually 36 years old and has two kids by another woman. Whom he is living with. One day she called me and ask how did I know her man. Thunder’s Kevin Durant donates $1 million for Tornado relief in Oklahoma

Kevin Durant already attained hero status in Oklahoma City for elevating the Thunder to the ranks of the NBA’s elite, but his latest act is more meaningful than anything he’s done on the court.

The Thunder All-Star is pledging $1 million — through The Durant Family Foundation — for relief after deadly tornadoes tore through the midwest on Monday. The American Red Cross said Durant’s commitment is meant to match other donations and be an incentive for more people to contribute.
