OBAMA TAKES POPULIST TONE IN STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS: President Obama took on a populist tone in his election-year State of the Union address last night (January 24th), portraying himself as a champion of the middle class looking to tackle the issue of income inequality. In Obama's at-times feisty 65-minute speech, which also served to make the case for giving him a second term, the president defended his record, including by touting the auto industry bailout, financial industry reform, the end of the Iraq War and the death of Osama bin Laden, and laid out what he still would like to do. While saying he wants to work with Congress, Obama said he'll fight obstruction if he has to: ["The state of our union is getting stronger. And we've come too far to turn back now. As long as I'm president, I will work with anyone in this chamber to build on this momentum. But I intend to fight obstruction with action and I will oppose any effort to return to the very same policies that brought on this economic crisis in the first place."] SOUNDCUE (:25 OC: . . . the first place.)
SEAL TALKS HEIDI SPLIT: Seal, who is still wearing his wedding ring despite splitting from Heidi Klum, explained the decision to Ellen DeGeneres: "I am still wearing my ring. I think it's just pretty much a token of how I feel about this woman. We have eight years. Eight wonderful years together. Just because we have decided to separate doesn't necessarily mean you take off your ring and you're no longer connected to that person."
