Barnes & Noble, the country’s largest bookseller, payment devices were hacked at 63 of its' stores nationwide. The perpetrators did steal credit and debit card information from customers by planting bugs in the company's card readers. However, the company said less than 1% of the devices in the system were affected. Machines were tampered with in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. A total of seven stores have been identified in Chicago and surrounding suburbs like Evanston. The company urged customers of the targeted stores to review their accounts for unauthorized transactions and change their PINs. The company announced it's collaborating with banks, payment card brands and issuers to identify which customer accounts were attacked and have involved  federal authorities. The chain added using its' Nook devices and app were unaffected!
