Cooling Centers And Other Ways To Beat The Heat In Chicago

Chicago is not only hot, but very humid this week and the temperatures are expected to stay above 80 well into next week. These extreme temps mixed with high humidity can cause health problems and other issues for many people.

Please be sure to check on your family, friends, neighbors and especially the elderly and those with disabilities during this time. The city has six cooling centers (listed below) and there are other places where you can keep cool including the city's senior centers, public libraries and park district buildings, air conditioned CTA buses are stationed at Chicago Public Schools and many parks will turn on water features such as splash pads.

These cooling centers are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Friday:

  • Englewood Center, 1140 W. 79th St.
  • Garfield Center, 10 S. Kedzie Ave.
  • King Center, 4314 S. Cottage Grove Ave.
  • North Area Center, 845 W. Wilson Ave.
  • South Chicago Center, 8650 S. Commercial Ave.
  • Trina Davila Center, 4312 W. North Ave.

The downtown Renaissance Court center located at 78 E. Washington St. is also open every weekday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
